Woven Card Tutorial

I am so excited to be guest hosting today's "Try A New Technique" challenge over at Splitcoast. Here is a simple tutorial for your viewing pleasure. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I am more than happy to help in any way I can. To start.. Choose a die as your template. Cut a sheet of Sticker Paper just larger than your die.

Next cut your coordinating cardstock into 1/2" strips and as long as your Sticker Sheet..

Next peel your sticker sheet backing off just far enough to expose 2 rows of adhesive like so

Carefully position your first set of vertical rows and the first 2 horizontal rows on the adhesive and press firmly making sure not to touch the rest of your adhesive.

Now pull your adhesive backing down far enough to expose enough "sticky" for your next row of strips..

Finish weaving your rows carefully aligning them and pressing to the adhesive.. Make sure you press them firmly to ensure proper adhesion..

Run finished piece through your die cutting machine to cut out your woven background.

Emboss edges if you choose... Remove woven background from die and assemble card as desired... Here is my finished card:

Just Because FS

This was probably one of the first 10 stamp sets I purchased and I still love it to this day... There are so many ways to use this one... I changed the background color, the stamp set, the border punch and a few minor other details... My main image was colored with copic markers. What did we ever do without copics?

Soft Flowers

Many Smiles

Boy could my family use some "smiles" these days... Things in my house are very tight and rough these days... Wishing something good can come soon... There is one thing that I have been working towards for a little while now that I really want and am still holding onto the hope that I get it... I have also recently gone back to work after being out for 4 months due to a major knee surgery and I am wondering if I went back too soon because I am having a rough time with it...

And hubby is still looking for a job... He does seem to have a really good prospect and they told him they planned to hire him but need to get the funding approved from corporate first... They said it could be this week or several months from now... (Like we can sit around and wait!) So like I said, we need a few smiles this way too... This is my "smile" card for today's challenge.. I could use a smile card myself so this was a perfect challenge for me today. I had the idea to use this stamp set last night, but hadn't seen it in quite some time so I thought I got rid of it. Well... I got up this morning and started rumbling through my "stored" stamp sets and viola... There it was right on top. So glad I kept this one as it was perfect for today's challenge... It is so fun pulling out older sets to play with. They remind me why I bought them in the first place... This was a super simple card to put together... I had this DSP sitting around and thought it was cute so I pulled it out.. Then I stamped my image and punched it out with the 1 3/8" circle punch and then the scallop punch. I stamped my main panel with the same smiley faces as my main image and then my sentiment. I added some ribbon and some cute little Candi to the cheeks and viola... my card... Fold Over Bookmark

I AM UPDATING THIS SO EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THIS CAN INDEED BE USED AS A BOOKMARK.... I scored the back flap every 1/4" so that it will fit in any thickness of book. The decorated front part with be outside the book and displayed for all to see. It is too pretty (IMHO) to tuck away inside a book anyway... So the flower isn't going to affect using this particular bookmark in any way... :)

This is the first time I have made one of these bookmarks but I have to tell you I absolutely love how this turned out... the ribbon worked nicely for me, the flower turned out great and I absolutely love this DSP. I hope you like what I have done too...

Milk Cartons galore

I wanted to play around a little bit today with some of my new stuff and since I really liked the colors today, I decided to make my milk carton with the challenge colors.. Everything on this card is Stampin Up including the flower.. I hope you like what I have done with the milk carton die.. It is truly an adorable and must have die... If you don't have it... Get it!!!

I was sitting in my stamp room today and my 8 year old son came in and asked if "we" (the kids) could make milk cartons today... So I had all of the kids pick a color and cut out their milk cartons.. This is the one I made with them and I absolutely love it... The flower is made with the scallop punch from Stampin Up!... **To make the flower with the scallop punch cut in towards the center in between all of the scallops making sure not to cut all the way to the center. My red milk carton used 3 scallops and the purple used 2. Make sure you off set your "petals" so they aren't right on top of each other.*** I hope you will try this flower.. This is my card for today's color challenge... Raspberry Ripple Pink Pirouette Crumb Cake I don't have any crumb cake but a friend told me that kraft was the same color renamed... So the ribbon is kraft colored organdy ribbon and my leaves are stamped in brown but for some reason they look a little greenish in the photo... This is a truly awesome color combination and I loved working with it... I stamped my flowers and leaves with versamark ink and embossed with Whinter White embossing powder. I then inked the flowers and leaves with Raspberry Ripple, Pink Pirouette, and Brown and wiped the embossed part off to make the white clean and crisp. I used a ball stylus and mat to dimensionalize my flowers and leaves. I punched out the scallop and circle for my sentiment, added a few pearls and my card came together quite nicely..
